Our Story

about BAODI

Ningbo Baodi Plastic Valve Co., Ltd. traces its origins back to 1979, with its predecessors being Zhenhai Chemical Valve Factory and Beilun Plastic Valve Factory. The company is one of the earliest Industrial Plastic Check Valves Manufacturers and Custom Industrial Plastic Check Valves Factory in China to design and produce industrial plastic valves and receive acceptance from the Ministry of Chemical Industry. In 1979, the company manufactured its first plastic diaphragm valve, which passed the technical appraisal of the Ministry of Chemical Industry in 1983. In 1992, the company invented the one-piece flange ball valve, a structural design that has since become the most widely used plastic valve product in chemical-related industries. The development history of the company and its predecessors also represents an important chapter in the application of plastic valves in China's industrial production.

In 2006, the company expanded its product line to cover industrial plastic pipes and fittings, becoming one of the first domestic enterprises to apply CPVC material in the production of industrial-grade piping valves. Over more than 40 years since its establishment, the company has designed and manufactured various plastic valves for the most demanding industries. It has served tens of thousands of enterprises both domestically and internationally, exporting to more than 60 countries, and has consistently remained a leading manufacturer of industrial thermoplastic valves and piping systems. Our professional service and stable quality have always been well received and recognized by customers.

Baodi ranks among the global leaders in the number of product categories, capable of fully covering industrial plastic pipe and valve requirements. The company has obtained ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 system certifications, as well as the national special equipment pressure piping component manufacturing license. It is recognized as a National High-Tech Enterprise and a Ningbo City Specialized and Sophisticated Enterprise. Baodi is a principal drafter of the national standard for plastic diaphragm valves and the chemical industry standards for plastic diaphragm valves, plastic ball valves, and plastic check valves.

Overview

Automatic backflow prevention in corrosion-free plastic

A valve with no handle and no external power

Industrial plastic check valves let fluid flow in one direction and close automatically when flow stops or reverses, protecting pumps, meters, and process equipment from backflow. They have no stem, no handle, and need no power; the fluid itself opens the valve. The range covers swing, ball, spring-loaded, vertical lift, and foot valve designs in PVC-U, CPVC, PP, and PVDF.

Matching the check design to the line

Each check design suits a different job. Swing checks give a full-bore, low-loss path in horizontal lines, ball checks pass solids and wastewater, spring-loaded checks close fast in any orientation, vertical checks work in upward flow, and foot valves hold prime on a pump suction. Choosing among them depends on mounting orientation, fluid cleanliness, flow rate, and how quickly the valve must close.

Application

Where check valves protect a system

Anywhere flow reversal could damage equipment, contaminate a source, or lose prime, a check valve is the safeguard.

Pump Discharge Lines
Stopping reverse flow through a stopped pump.
Chemical Dosing Systems
Preventing backflow into dosing pumps and reservoirs.
Water Treatment Plants
Protecting filters, meters, and blowers from reverse flow.
Irrigation & Agriculture
Preventing backflow of fertilizer into water sources.
Wastewater & Sump Systems
Holding discharge in the pipe after a sump pump stops.
Cooling & Process Circuits
Keeping loops from draining or reversing when pumps stop.
Design Selection

Check valve designs in the range

The body material sets chemical resistance, but the internal design decides how the valve behaves in the line.

Comparison

Check valves vs. isolation valves for backflow protection

A check valve protects automatically; a manual or actuated valve needs an operator or control signal.

FactorCheck ValveManual or Actuated Valve
OperationAutomatic, driven by flowOperator or control signal required
Response to Flow ReversalCloses without delayOnly if commanded
Isolation for ServiceNot a tight isolation deviceProvides positive isolation
Power NeededNoneAir or electricity for actuators
Pressure DropSome loss from the moving elementVery low when fully open
Best UseBackflow preventionIsolation and flow control
Advantage

Why check valves are specified

Automatic Protection
Closes on flow reversal without an operator or control signal.
Corrosion-Free Body
Plastic bodies suit aggressive fluids where metal checks would corrode.
No External Power
Flow itself moves the valve element.
Design Choice
Swing, ball, spring, vertical, and foot types cover different line conditions.
Lightweight
Plastic bodies are easy to handle and support.
Few Moving Parts
Simple internals limit maintenance.
Structure & Components

What is inside the valve

A single moving element sits in the flow path and seats against the body when flow stops or reverses.

1. Body — Plastic housing with a marked flow direction
2. Moving Element — Disc, ball, or poppet that opens with forward flow
3. Seat — Sealing surface the element closes against
4. Seal — Elastomer seat or O-ring for tight shutoff
5. Cover or Cap — Access to the internals for service
6. End Connections — Socket, threaded, or flanged ends
Quality Control

Every valve is checked before it ships

Opening, closing, and sealing behavior are tested for every check valve design.

1
Material Check
Resin and elastomer batches are checked for grade and consistency.
2
Hydrostatic Test
Each body is pressure tested at its rated working pressure.
3
Backflow Seal Test
Reverse pressure is applied to verify the element seals on its seat.
4
Opening Check
Forward flow is used to confirm the element lifts freely.
5
Dimensional Check
Connections and flow direction markings are checked against drawings.
6
Batch Traceability
Production batches are recorded back to raw material lots.
Design Guide

Which check valve for which line

Orientation, fluid, and closing speed usually decide the design.

DesignBest Suited ForKey Characteristics
Swing CheckHorizontal clean-fluid linesFull bore, low pressure loss
Ball CheckDirty or solids-laden fluidSelf-cleaning, wide passage
Spring-Loaded CheckFast closing or any-orientation linesReduces water hammer
Foot ValvePump suction from a tank or wellHolds prime, strainer inlet
Installation & Maintenance

Getting it right in the field

Installation Guidance
  • Install with the flow arrow matching the flow direction.
  • Check the mounting orientation allowed for the design before piping it.
  • Leave straight pipe upstream to reduce turbulence on the moving element.
  • Support pipe on both sides so the body carries no pipe weight.
Maintenance Guidance
  • Inspect the seat and seal periodically for wear or debris.
  • Check for chatter or slamming, which can indicate the wrong design for the line.
  • Clean the internals in dirty service on a regular schedule.
  • Replace seals and springs as a set when wear is found.
Payment, Shipping & Warranty

FAQ

Common questions

Is a check valve a shutoff valve?
No. A check valve prevents reverse flow automatically but is not a positive isolation device, so a separate isolation valve is used for service.
How do I choose between swing, ball, and spring checks?
Swing suits clean horizontal lines, ball checks handle solids, and spring checks close fast in any orientation.
Does a check valve need a minimum flow?
It needs enough forward pressure to open the element; this is the cracking pressure, and it varies by design.
Why does my check valve slam?
Slow-closing designs can slam when flow reverses in a pumped system; a spring-loaded check usually closes more gently.
Can check valves be installed vertically?
Some designs can, depending on the direction of flow; ball, spring, and vertical lift checks are common choices.
