Overview

CPVC shutoff engineered for hot water and elevated-temperature chemical duty

Built for higher-temperature service

Industrial CPVC ball valves are quarter-turn shutoff valves molded from chlorinated polyvinyl chloride, a material that keeps most of PVC-U's broad chemical resistance while raising the usable temperature ceiling to around 95°C. That difference makes CPVC the material of choice wherever a plastic valve has to hold up to hot process water, elevated-temperature acids and alkalis, or hot water distribution — duty that would soften or distort a standard PVC-U body over time.

True union body for practical servicing

Most industrial CPVC ball valves use a true union body, so the center section with the ball and seats can be lifted out of the line for cleaning or seat replacement without cutting the surrounding CPVC pipework. A floating ball paired with PTFE or reinforced PTFE seats delivers bubble-tight shutoff, while socket or threaded end connections keep the valve compatible with standard CPVC pipe and fittings used across process and hot-water piping systems.

Application

Where CPVC valves are specified over standard PVC

CPVC is chosen wherever the fluid temperature would push a PVC-U valve beyond its safe operating range.

Hot Water Distribution
Domestic and commercial hot water supply lines up to CPVC's rated temperature.
Chemical Processing
Elevated-temperature acid, alkali, and salt solutions in reaction and transfer lines.
Industrial Process Heating
Hot process water circuits in manufacturing and utility plants.
Cooling Tower Systems
Chemical treatment and blowdown lines exposed to warm water and biocides.
Electroplating & Metal Finishing
Heated plating baths and hot rinse lines requiring sustained chemical resistance.
Fire Sprinkler Systems
CPVC fire protection piping in commercial and residential installations.
Material Comparison

CPVC against the other common plastic valve materials

Choosing CPVC over PVC-U, PP, or PVDF comes down to the temperature and chemical profile of the line it protects.

MaterialTemperature RangeTypical StrengthsCommon Use
CPVC (this valve)0°C to 95°CHigh-temperature version of PVC chemistry, strong acid/alkali resistanceHot water, elevated-temperature chemical lines
PVC-U0°C to 60°CSimilar chemical resistance, lower costCool-service water and chemical transfer
PP0°C to 90°CGood solvent resistance, lighter weightDosing and general chemical processing
PVDF-20°C to 99°CSuperior resistance to strong oxidizers and halogensHigh-purity and aggressive chemical duty

Advantage

Why plants choose CPVC over standard PVC

Higher Temperature Ceiling
Handles hot water and elevated-temperature chemical duty that would soften a PVC-U valve.
Retained Chemical Resistance
Keeps the broad acid, alkali, and salt resistance familiar from PVC-U chemistry.
True Union Serviceability
Union ends allow the ball and seat assembly to be removed for service without cutting pipe.
Zero Metal Contamination
All wetted parts are plastic, suitable for corrosive or ion-sensitive process water.
Bubble-Tight Shutoff
Floating ball and PTFE seats deliver reliable zero-leakage sealing across the size range.
Fire-Protection Compatible
Matches CPVC fire sprinkler pipe systems for consistent material compatibility.
Structure & Components

What is inside the valve

The true union CPVC body houses the ball, seats, and stem assembly, with union nuts allowing removal for service.

1. Union Nut (x2) — Threads onto the end connector, clamping the body to the pipeline
2. End Connector (x2) — Solvent-welds or threads onto the adjoining CPVC pipe
3. Center Body — Houses the ball, seats, and stem assembly
4. Floating Ball — Rotates 90° between open and closed positions
5. PTFE Seats — Seal against the ball, rated for CPVC's higher operating temperature
6. Stem & Handle — Transfers handle rotation to the ball while sealing against leakage
Quality Control

Every valve is checked before it ships

Inspections confirm both sealing performance and dimensional accuracy, with attention to CPVC's higher-temperature service.

1
Material Check
Incoming CPVC resin and molded parts are checked for color consistency and correct grade.
2
Hydrostatic Test
Each valve body is pressure tested with water to confirm it withstands its rated working pressure.
3
Elevated-Temperature Seal Check
Sample units are checked for consistent sealing performance near the upper temperature rating.
4
Seat Sealing Test
An air or water seal test verifies bubble-tight shutoff across the ball and seats.
5
Torque Test
Handle torque is checked to confirm smooth, consistent quarter-turn operation.
6
Batch Traceability
Production batches are recorded, allowing traceability back to raw material lots.
Actuation

Manual, pneumatic, or electric

A standard ISO 5211 mounting pad allows manual operation to be upgraded to pneumatic or electric actuation later.

Operation TypeBest Suited ForKey Characteristics
Manual LeverLocal hot-water or process shutoffLowest cost, no power source required
Pneumatic ActuatorAutomated hot-process lines with compressed air availableFast cycling for sequencing or batch control
Electric ActuatorRemote-controlled or monitored hot water and chemical linesIntegrates with control systems and remote monitoring
Installation & Maintenance

Getting it right in the field

Installation Guidance
  • Use CPVC-specific solvent cement, since PVC cement is not compatible with CPVC pipe and fittings.
  • Allow the solvent-welded joint to fully cure before pressurizing or heating the line, per the cement manufacturer's guidance.
  • Support the pipeline near the valve to avoid placing stress on the body during thermal expansion and contraction.
  • Tighten union nuts evenly by hand or with the recommended tool torque to avoid over-stressing the plastic body.
Maintenance Guidance
  • Periodically cycle the valve fully open and closed to keep seats and ball surfaces clean.
  • Inspect union connections and stem seals for weeping, particularly after repeated thermal cycling.
  • Allow the line to cool before servicing the valve to avoid handling hot CPVC components under load.
  • The true union design allows seat and seal replacement to usually be completed on site without special tools.

FAQ

Common questions

How does CPVC differ from standard PVC-U in this valve?
CPVC keeps PVC-U's broad chemical resistance but raises the safe operating temperature to about 95°C, making it suitable for hot water and elevated-temperature chemical duty that would soften a PVC-U valve.
Can I use regular PVC solvent cement on CPVC connections?
No. CPVC requires CPVC-specific solvent cement; standard PVC cement will not form a proper joint on CPVC pipe and fittings.
What is the maximum working temperature and pressure?
Working temperature reaches up to about 95°C, with pressure up to 230 psi (16 bar) at 20°C, decreasing as temperature rises.
Is the valve suitable for fire sprinkler piping?
Yes, CPVC ball valves are compatible with CPVC fire sprinkler pipe systems, keeping the installation in a single, consistent material.
Can the valve be serviced without cutting the pipe?
Yes. The true union body allows the center section to be unscrewed from the union ends for cleaning or seat replacement without disturbing the surrounding pipework.
