Overview

A space-saving body for tight skids and dense equipment layouts

Reduced footprint without cutting sealing performance

Compact industrial ball valves are quarter-turn shutoff valves engineered with a shortened face-to-face length and reduced overall envelope compared with standard true union valves, while keeping the same floating ball and PTFE seat arrangement for bubble-tight shutoff. Molded from PVC-U, CPVC, or PP, the smaller body and lighter weight make it easier to fit valves into densely packed manifolds, instrument panels, and skid-mounted equipment where standard-length valves would not fit.

Built for crowded skids and OEM equipment

Because floor space, panel depth, or manifold spacing is often the limiting factor on packaged equipment, a compact body lets designers place more valves in the same footprint or route pipework tighter without sacrificing flow area or sealing reliability. The valve still accepts standard socket or threaded end connections and can be specified with a true union or single-body design depending on whether in-line serviceability or maximum space savings is the priority.

Application

Where a reduced footprint matters most

Packaged and skid-mounted equipment is often designed around tight space budgets, where every millimeter of valve length counts.

OEM Equipment Skids
Pre-assembled dosing, filtration, and treatment skids with dense valve arrangements.
Instrument & Sample Panels
Compact shutoff on gauge, sensor, and sample line manifolds.
Multi-Valve Manifolds
Close-spaced valve banks on distribution and blending headers.
Mobile & Trailer-Mounted Systems
Space-constrained treatment and dosing units built for transport.
Retrofit Installations
Fitting a valve into existing pipework where clearance is limited.
Panel-Mounted Process Equipment
Cabinet or enclosure-mounted valves where depth is restricted.
Material Selection

Choosing the right body material

The compact body is offered in the same core materials as standard valves, so chemical compatibility does not have to be traded off for size.

MaterialTemperature RangeTypical StrengthsCommon Use
PVC-U0°C to 60°CBroad acid and alkali resistance, economical, lightweightGeneral water and chemical service on compact skids
CPVC0°C to 90°CHigher temperature tolerance than PVC-U with similar chemical resistanceHot water or elevated-temperature compact installations
PP0°C to 90°CGood solvent resistance, among the lightest optionsWeight-sensitive mobile or panel-mounted equipment

Comparison

Compact vs. standard-length industrial ball valves

Both use the same sealing principle; the compact version trades some in-line serviceability space for a smaller footprint.

FactorCompact Ball ValveStandard-Length Ball Valve

Advantage

Why designers specify a compact body

Smaller Installed Footprint
Shortened face-to-face length frees up space on crowded manifolds and skids.
Lighter Weight
Reduced body mass eases panel mounting and lowers support requirements.
Same Sealing Reliability
Floating ball and PTFE seat design delivers the same bubble-tight shutoff as standard-length valves.
Flexible Body Style
Available as compact single-body or compact true union depending on service needs.
Material Choice Retained
PVC-U, CPVC, and PP options keep chemical compatibility on par with standard valves.
Simplifies OEM Design
Lets equipment builders fit more valves or tighter pipe runs into a fixed enclosure size.
Structure & Components

What is inside the valve

A shortened body houses the same floating ball, seat, and stem arrangement found on standard-length valves.

1. Compact Body — Shortened face-to-face shell housing the ball and seats
2. Floating Ball — Rotates 90° to open, throttle, or shut off flow
3. PTFE Seats — Seal against the ball on both upstream and downstream sides
4. Stem & O-Rings — Transfers handle rotation to the ball while sealing against external leakage
5. End Connector — Socket or threaded connection to the adjoining pipe
6. Handle / Actuator Pad — Manual lever or compact ISO 5211 pad for actuation
Quality Control

Every valve is checked before it ships

Dimensional accuracy is checked closely on the compact body to confirm it meets the reduced face-to-face specification without sacrificing sealing performance.

1
Material Check
Incoming raw material and molded parts are checked for color consistency and correct grade.
2
Dimensional Check
Face-to-face length and connection dimensions are checked against the compact-body drawing.
3
Hydrostatic Test
Each valve body is pressure tested with water to confirm it withstands its rated working pressure.
4
Seat Sealing Test
An air or water seal test verifies bubble-tight shutoff across the ball and seats.
5
Torque Test
Handle torque is checked to confirm smooth, consistent quarter-turn operation in the reduced envelope.
6
Batch Traceability
Production batches are recorded, allowing traceability back to raw material lots.
Actuation

Manual, or compact actuator upgrade

A reduced-depth ISO 5211 pad accepts compact pneumatic or electric actuators sized for tight enclosures.

Operation TypeBest Suited ForKey Characteristics

Installation & Maintenance

Getting it right in the field

Installation Guidance
  • Confirm clearance around the handle before finalizing panel or manifold spacing, since compact bodies are often installed close together.
  • Support the pipeline near the valve to avoid placing excess stress on the smaller body during installation.
  • For solvent weld connections, allow the joint to fully cure before pressurizing the line.
  • Operate the handle through a full quarter turn after installation to confirm smooth movement in the installed spacing.
Maintenance Guidance
  • Periodically cycle the valve fully open and closed to keep seats and ball surfaces clean.
  • Inspect connections for weeping during routine plant checks, noting that access may be tighter than on standard-length valves.
  • Plan service access in advance on dense manifolds, since neighboring valves may need to be loosened for clearance.
  • Replace seats and seals as a set when wear is noticed, rather than mixing new and worn parts.
Payment, Shipping & Warranty
