Our Story

about BAODI

Ningbo Baodi Plastic Valve Co., Ltd. traces its origins back to 1979, with its predecessors being Zhenhai Chemical Valve Factory and Beilun Plastic Valve Factory. The company is one of the earliest Swing Type Plastic Check Valves Manufacturers and Custom Swing Type Plastic Check Valves Factory in China to design and produce industrial plastic valves and receive acceptance from the Ministry of Chemical Industry. In 1979, the company manufactured its first plastic diaphragm valve, which passed the technical appraisal of the Ministry of Chemical Industry in 1983. In 1992, the company invented the one-piece flange ball valve, a structural design that has since become the most widely used plastic valve product in chemical-related industries. The development history of the company and its predecessors also represents an important chapter in the application of plastic valves in China's industrial production.

In 2006, the company expanded its product line to cover industrial plastic pipes and fittings, becoming one of the first domestic enterprises to apply CPVC material in the production of industrial-grade piping valves. Over more than 40 years since its establishment, the company has designed and manufactured various plastic valves for the most demanding industries. It has served tens of thousands of enterprises both domestically and internationally, exporting to more than 60 countries, and has consistently remained a leading manufacturer of industrial thermoplastic valves and piping systems. Our professional service and stable quality have always been well received and recognized by customers.

Baodi ranks among the global leaders in the number of product categories, capable of fully covering industrial plastic pipe and valve requirements. The company has obtained ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 system certifications, as well as the national special equipment pressure piping component manufacturing license. It is recognized as a National High-Tech Enterprise and a Ningbo City Specialized and Sophisticated Enterprise. Baodi is a principal drafter of the national standard for plastic diaphragm valves and the chemical industry standards for plastic diaphragm valves, plastic ball valves, and plastic check valves.

Overview

A hinged disc that swings clear of the flow for a full-bore, low-loss path

How a swing check works

A swing type plastic check valve carries a disc on a hinge pin at the top of the body. Forward flow pushes the disc up and out of the way, leaving a nearly unobstructed passage. When the flow stops or reverses, gravity and back pressure swing the disc down onto the seat, sealing the line. The straight-through path gives very low pressure loss compared with lift or spring designs.

Orientation and velocity matter

Swing checks work best in horizontal lines, where gravity returns the disc to the seat, and in vertical lines with upward flow. They need enough velocity to hold the disc fully open and avoid flutter, and they close more slowly than spring-loaded valves, so they suit systems with steady flow and moderate pump cycling. Flanged, socket, and threaded versions are available in PVC-U, CPVC, and PP.

Application

Where swing checks are used

Medium and large lines with steady flow and clean fluids are the natural fit for a swing check.

Pump Discharge Headers
Backflow protection on horizontal pump outlets.
Water Treatment Plants
Check protection on filtration and transfer lines.
Cooling Water Circuits
Preventing reverse flow through stopped pumps.
Irrigation Mains
Backflow protection on large irrigation supply lines.
Chemical Transfer
Low-loss backflow prevention in clean chemical lines.
Seawater Systems
Corrosion-free checks on intake and discharge lines.
Material Selection

Choosing body and seat materials

Body material sets chemical resistance and temperature; the seat elastomer governs sealing with the disc.

MaterialTemperature RangeTypical StrengthsCommon Use
PVC-U0°C to 60°CEconomical, broad chemical resistanceWater and general chemical lines
CPVC0°C to 90°CHigher temperature toleranceHot water and elevated-temperature chemicals
PP0°C to 80°CLightweight, solvent resistantProcess and dosing lines

Comparison

Swing check vs. spring-loaded check

Both prevent backflow; they differ in pressure loss, closing speed, and where they can be mounted.

FactorSwing CheckSpring-Loaded Check
Pressure LossVery low, full-bore pathHigher, element sits in the flow
Closing SpeedSlower, can slam on rapid reversalFast, spring assists closing
OrientationHorizontal or upward verticalAny orientation
Cracking PressureVery lowSet by spring rate
Typical SizeMedium to largeSmall to medium
Best UseSteady-flow, low-loss linesPumped lines needing fast closure
Advantage

Why swing checks are widely used

Full-Bore Flow Path
The disc swings clear, leaving nearly unobstructed flow.
Low Pressure Loss
Very little head is lost across the valve when open.
Simple Mechanism
A hinged disc has few parts to wear.
Large Sizes Available
Swing designs scale to DN300 in plastic.
Low Cracking Pressure
The disc opens at very small differential pressures.
Corrosion-Free
Plastic bodies suit seawater, acids, and alkalis.
Structure & Components

What is inside the valve

A hinged disc pivots at the top of the body and seats against an angled seat ring.

1. Body — Plastic housing with flow direction marking
2. Disc — Hinged disc that swings open with forward flow
3. Hinge Pin — Pivot that holds the disc at the top of the body
4. Seat Ring — Angled sealing surface the disc closes against
5. Seat Seal — Elastomer ring for tight shutoff
6. Cover — Access to the disc and hinge for service
Quality Control

Every valve is checked before it ships

Disc swing, hinge freedom, and seat sealing are verified on every swing check.

1
Material Check
Resin and elastomer batches are checked for grade and consistency.
2
Hinge Freedom Check
The disc is swung by hand to confirm free, full-range motion.
3
Hydrostatic Test
Each body is pressure tested at its rated working pressure.
4
Backflow Seal Test
Reverse pressure verifies the disc seals on the seat.
5
Dimensional Check
Flange and body dimensions are checked against drawings.
6
Batch Traceability
Production batches are recorded back to raw material lots.
Options

Customizing the swing check

Small changes to the disc and seat adapt the valve to different line conditions.

OptionBest Suited ForKey Characteristics
Standard DiscSteady forward flowLowest pressure loss
Weighted DiscLines prone to flow reversalFaster closing, less slam
FPM SeatOils and some solventsBroader chemical range than EPDM
Installation & Maintenance

Getting it right in the field

Installation Guidance
  • Install with the flow arrow matching the flow direction, hinge on top in horizontal lines.
  • Allow straight pipe upstream to reduce turbulence on the disc.
  • Support the pipe on both sides so the body carries no pipe load.
  • Check that adjacent fittings do not interfere with disc swing.
Maintenance Guidance
  • Inspect the hinge pin and disc for wear or buildup periodically.
  • Listen for slamming or chatter, which can mean the valve is the wrong type for the line.
  • Clean the seat ring and replace the seal if the disc no longer seals.
  • Open the cover during turnarounds to check internal condition.

FAQ

Common questions

Can a swing check be installed vertically?
Yes, in a vertical line with upward flow; for downward flow, a different design is needed.
Why does a swing check slam?
A disc that closes slowly can slam when flow reverses suddenly; a weighted disc or spring-loaded check usually closes more gently.
What flow velocity does it need?
Enough velocity to hold the disc fully open and avoid flutter; this depends on size and design.
What sizes are available?
Standard sizes run from DN50 to DN300.
Which connections are offered?
Flanged, socket, and threaded ends are available.
